Gender in fashion

Gender in fashion

This is one of my first proper projects within my A-level course in which i wanted to discuss the ideas of gender and the ways clothing can represent that. However i did not want to create a unisex garment, instead a piece which highlighted aspects within both masculinity and femininity.

I began with using the 3D modelling software CLO-3D to create a rough pattern which i then used to manufacture a tuile of the garment in calico. Finally coming to the final piece in which i used a pinstripe wool fabric for the main body to represent the classical masculine ideas of working within an office and being the breadwinner of a home. In contrast I used a rich red valour material for the triangle inserts which aimed to mimic the image of a ball gown. Finally being displayed during my school fashion show accompanied by a backless cotton shirt.
